Got mine all over with for another year, and a clean bill of health! Phew! I hate the tension that goes with the waiting for the lab results. Everything is much faster now than it used to be so the waiting isn't quite as long. Got my mammo results in a couple of days.

My doc recommended I up my Vit D to 2,000IU instead of the 1,000 I was taking. My blood levels were normal but a little on the low side. All my other blood work was good, cholesterol and triglycerides were great. I dread these yearly poke 'n prods but know it's necessary. How about you? Have y'all made your visits yet?

I had my physical checkup this past fall. Am fine. Abit low on iron so took prescribed iron pills for a few wks. Now not needed. My mammo was fine.

Also had a dermatologist check my face skin and all over. Ok, just have to keep on using sunblock, etc.

Had my first comprehensive eye exam in my life. Never before because my vision was good. So got reading glasses for lst time in my life at 51. The optometrist seemed relieved to tell me it was only reading glasses, not anything else wrong with my eyes. Probably because I never needed an eye exam before.

This past January, I also had a 2nd different physical checkup but different tests for a large research study of British Columbians 40-69 yrs. old on impact of lifestyle, etc. and effect on cancer rate, longevity. I signed up to participate in research project. I have a print out of those test results.

Honest, I don't dread the physician visits --I look forward to them..to get more info. out of the doctor to help myself. I like pumping info. out of the doctor. And there is a way to do it, if only some patients could try to think swift enough to frame their questions clearly to the doctor. So that s/he can tell me whatever condition I have and I can go off on my own to read more about it, quizz my doctor-sister for 2nd opinion. Instead of wondering or 2nd-guessing.

If I should get a negative diagnosis one day...which will happen ..hopefully not soon...at least, I have tried whatever I could have to be healthy/become healthier.

So glad everything has come out in a positive way so far Orchid. I hope all future checkups do as well, and illness is not inevitable. My mother turned 90 in April and has never had more than a cold ans some stiffness... My Aunt is 91 and the same with her. Taking care of ones self all your life does make a difference...

Your mom and aunt are impressive, health-wise. how is their mobibility?

I used to not have a cold for 3-4 consecutive years in different times in life. But when I get one it usually hangs around for 2-3 wks. I haven't had a cold in the past 18 months so far. And I have been cycling year-round, plus went snowshoeing in mountains in January.

And I didn't get immunized this year. (Remember that H1N1 flu?) Well, actually I haven't gotten myself immunized for awhile against flu.

However I just continue to be careful.. It may well because several of my siblings have jobs in different hospitals, that I just view doctors...as ordinary people..where I do feel entitled, as a patient, to ask questions or clarification.

However I dislike having my blood drawn for blood tests. I have to look away. Some of my siblings are vaguely amused by this since it's nothing to them. One of them worked for a laboratory where they drew blood regularily.

It is helpful that have siblings working in patient care, because for my parents, it makes them just a little bit less anxious if one of us is around. Or just the knowledge one's child is a health care professional therefore the non-family health care professional is just another human being too. And doesn't intend to intimidate with knowledge/expertise.

I saw this today, and it really made me giggle!

The trouble with jogging is that, by the time you realize you're not in shape for it, it's too far to walk back.

Had mine today and results in 7-days. Once a year physicals are not so bad, just don't like needles!

I can remember when daddy has the colon test (speaking of annual poke 'n prod) and had to drink the stuff called, "Go Lightly." He called it, "go quickly." Always the humorist...that man!

I don't have insurance so I don't get these. (Queen knocking on wood)
