Interesting question. I have a feeling that people who are artistic often indulge in a lot of wild and crazy behavior as part of the artistic personality. I happen to know (very slightly) a successful artist who very deliberately decided to life his life very straight: wonderful wife, far from any big art centers, no drunkenness or drugs, etc. His philosophy has been that he will channel his creativity into the canvas and there's no need to make statements elsewhere. I wish more people had his smarts.

Of course, plenty of people who are not creative also eat, drink, drug, or smoke too much. I think we all need to learn how to express our anger or pent-up energies in productive ways, whether it's exercise or gardening or painting or whatever. Sooner or later what we do will catch up with us; that's for sure.
