How's that for a new word? Apparently there's a builder in Chicago who is reinventing the condo for boomers. I believe these places are going to include everything a boomer wants in retirement living.

Once again...boomers change the way the world does everything.

Wow, that's weird. ZENdominiums? So we'll have all that Zen feeling and probably feng shui and all that? Hmmm, all I want is a housekeeper and a cook. Then I'll have more time to enjoy my baby boomer days!

Dots, do you have a link where we can read more about this? I'm wondering what exactly these people have defined as "everything a baby boomer needs." You know? I think I need a Zenbodyist...or Zenhairologist, you know...for the perfect hairdo?

Sounds like Zenbullpucky to me but then again I will wait and see for myself. I wonder who the BOOMERS were who decided what we all want.

I don't know where this topic is leading to. You all seem to have lost the plot! But, I am enjoying it. So, funny.

Zenbullpucky! Another grand word to borrow from Chatty! I can just picture you with arms akimbo.

Re: zendominiums - 12/11/06 07:29 PM

Oh this is is an interesting post. I missed this somehow..

Those architects should give me a call, I'll tell them what we boomers want!

Large whirlpool with a view over the oceon, lake mountains or city…take your pick.

The dining room table must have a mechanism that allows the table to sink into the floor, Dirty dishes and all, and at the touch of another button rises in the décor you have chosen…Of course another button will give you the choice of having the table set up for one to 12 guests.

An automatic vacuum clean system…integrated in the floor…of course it purs as soft as a kitten and cleans like 10 cleaning ladies.

I think this will be the house of buttons: Button for pure stereo sound, button for your big screen Plasma TV, and an arcade of all the movies including the old ones that we boomers like.

A loudspeaker system so we can telephone wherever we are

By our luxury bed with heavenly mattresses for our Boomer backs is a massage table. On this we will lay, and underneath is a button to push when we need to call Mr. Gorgeous with his six pack stomach to give us our dream massage. When we have had enough…we push another button.

sigh… …Any other ideas?

Re: zendominiums - 12/11/06 07:57 PM

Ahhhh, Hannelore, you've lulled me into a delicious state of Zen..it all sounds so zenzational! (did someone already use that word?) What about a common room somewhere in the building where we can gather for tea/coffee/cheesecake/oreos (we'll just have a smorgasbord of goodies) while our laundry, ironing, cooking (just the dull stuff, not the fun cooking) and housecleaning are being done by the Zenitation Staff.

Re: zendominiums - 12/11/06 08:49 PM

Eagle Heart, Yes... of course...that would be the most important room. We ladies can zen together whenever we want. Number one rule;...come like you would chat! No make-up no dress up- just us being us....and this room has some thing magical about it...you can eat whatever you want as much as you want...and you won't gain a pound. OMG I can see Chatty running down the aisle with her soup, JJ with her orios, Cooky with her cookies and on and on.....sigh.

Re: zendominiums - 12/12/06 02:20 AM

Zounds! That sounds like a zensational room with lots of zensible things in it. When we live there, zen we can get to know each other in a very relaxed atmosphere. Come to your zenses, builders! These boomer women want all the zensual and zentimental features possible.

Zencerely yours,
Kathy

Re: zendominiums - 12/12/06 03:24 AM

The only zenbutton I want to push in the zenwhirlpool would be a some zenhunky zenguys zenbelly button. Someone else can make the zensoup, I'll be to zensually zenvolved making zenwhoopie....

Re: zendominiums - 12/15/06 11:37 AM

Eagle, your big room idea is perfect. I actually read another article months ago about how boomers are going to go back to communal living like in the 60s. I still ilke the idea of a big house on the beach where we all live and care for one another.

That article mentioned the fact that so many of our families are spread around the country/world. We'll no longer have family in town to care for us when we get sick. We'll care for one another.

Re: zendominiums - 12/15/06 02:54 PM

That's a neat idea, Dotsie. I could see that happening, so long as everyone had some private space they could retreat to. Not sure my hubby would go for it, but I can see a whole lot of us doing that if we were single or widowed. Seems like the girls might get more enjoyment out of that arrangement. (unlike the 60's when the guys got the enjoyment out of it... )
