Has Anyone Ever Heard of Dave Ramsey - Author?? - 01/03/08 06:53 PM

Hi Everyone,

I am new to these boards, so may not be asking this on the right board. Has anyone ever heard of a guy named Dave Ramsey that authored a book called The Total Money Makeover?

My company is having a 6-week read-a-thon and we will be reading his book together for 6 weeks (but I will probably read it in the first week if it is good). They will also be holding 6 training calls on specific aspects of the book.

Anyway - I have ordered the book and have committed to participating - just wanted to know if anyone knew anything about the book or the guy that wrote it. It sounds like it will be good!

Thanks!

I haven't heard of him so I did a "google" on him. I found lots of advertising FOR him but nothing negative ABOUT him, which says something right there, as most "scams" have all sorts of negative write ups about them.

No information we learn is wasted -- even if it's a complete rip-off -- you'll learn SOMETHING from it -- even if its nothing more than -- it's a rip off

but if it turns out to be good sound advice -- please share with us

Thanks, Lionspaaw! Will keep you posted. I should be receiving my copy of his book on Monday - with the 'read-a-thon' to begin on the 14th.

I haven't read his material...but the people that I have met who have swear by it! It appears to be a sound program for getting and staying out of debt...no get rich quick!

I have heard of him, read one of his books, and listened to his radio programs before. To me, he does have a sound program. I like his no nonesense approach to it as well. It may sound harsh to some, but don't we ALL justify whatever is going on in our lives, even how we spend/waste/whatever money?

He says, stop with the excuses but he doesn't end it there. He gives well thought out roadmaps as how to do it.

Another person who does this is Mary Hunt. She is at www.cheapskatemonthly.com

I have her book and have followed her program before. It works very well and is similar to Dave's. Suze Orman is another one.

I saluate you for investigating this! I think a lot of debt problems (I'm talking about my own, not yours) come from spending beyond our means (gimme, gimme, NOW) and credit cards being so accessible. The other is NOT saving anything, or paying OURSELVES first.

Just my two cents worth.
